King County Park’s Forest Stewardship Program manages over 29,000 acres of forest land. The Program’s main objectives are to improve ecological conditions and make our forests more resilient to the effects of climate change. This hike, led by Paul Fischer of King County, will focus on three recent large-scale forestry projects, which include extensive tree cutting and planting. Taylor Mountain is one of King County’s “working forests” where sustainable timber production is added to the standard suite of objectives. Paul will discuss upland forest health, the projected impacts of climate change, and how forest stewardship can affect and improve long-term climate resilience. The hike will lead through a few representative forest habitats of Taylor Mountain.
