About This Hike
Dig into the geology near the Sky Country trailhead on Cougar Mountain by joining geologist Tom Doe for this 3-mile exploratory hike. Learn about and see examples of what is right underfoot, including the major rock types, glacial history, the clay pit, sinkholes, and the legacy of coal mining in the area (no actual digging will take place).
This will be an interactive hike with stops for observation, discussion and Q&A.

Tom will be providing a pre-hike presentation and Q&A via Zoom to introduce the geology and mining history that will be visited during the hike. This 30-minute presentation is optional and will be recorded so that you can view it at your convenience prior to the hike. The Zoom link will be sent to registrants prior to the event.
